Painting a school requires getting teachers and students interested in a beautification project. Not only does a school have limitations or regulations regarding projects for the school that are appropriate, but it is also a large building and painting or decorating the school is a large task. There are reasons for painting and decorating a school, such as covering old and worn out paint as part of maintenance or starting a school beautification project.
Gather student helpers for the project. A teacher should run the project and supervise the students working on the project.
Sketch the decoration ideas or gather sketches. The teacher in charge of the project should create sketches or give students involved with the project directions for the sketch. For example, if decorating with an artistic mural, draw up the mural in a sketch. Have art students help with the decoration design and get as many students involved as possible. School decorations should relate to the school, such as a school mascot or school colors, and should incorporate artistic ideas. Avoid any pictures that are inappropriate for a school. Color in the sketch to determine the appropriate colors for the project. Have a few sketches available.
Go to the school principal or school board and submit the ideas for review. The submission is for permission and approval before starting the project. Show the sketches and allow the principal or school board to look through the sketches and select the preferred look. Listen to any suggestions for changes to the project. Changes might include color changes, eliminating elements in the decorations or putting parts of the sketches together. Only start the project after receiving approval and working out the details with the principal or school board.
Make a paint color selection which is an appropriate paint color for the school such as school colors. Background paint colors for the wall should match or look similar to original paint colors while mural paint colors might have school colors, mascot colors or similar options. Obtain the supplies when the selection is complete. Supplies will differ depending on the project. Generally, the school will provide the supplies, especially in the case of large scale projects or beautification projects.
Start painting. Art students or similar helpers are a good option for obtaining workers. If painting the walls of the school in a new coat of paint, use the rollers for easier and faster painting. For decorations like murals, allow background paint to dry and then draw in the mural. Use a paint brush with paints to fill in the lines.
