Decorating a girl's room with paint, furnishings and accessories that reflect her tastes and interests gives her a place that's uniquely her own. The project begins with the look she has in mind and colors that she prefers. With a clear idea of what you want to achieve, decorating the room should be an enjoyable and relatively easy project.
Talk with the girl whose room will be decorated about her theme and color preferences. Girls often like princess, sports and horse themes. Rainbows, stars and favorite celebrities are other options. Select a group of three to four coordinating colors to use with the theme.
Select one color from the three or four that you have chosen to go on the walls. Cover the floor with a drop cloth, and paint the walls, allowing ample drying time. To create an accent wall, paint three of the walls in your selected color and the fourth in a coordinating color to draw attention to that end of the room.
Purchase curtains, area rugs, sheets, bedding and throw pillows in the colors that you have selected. Look for items that not only have the right colors, but also incorporate the theme of the room.
Arrange furniture in the room to allow easy movement from one area to another for dressing, studying and relaxing. Try to maximize space in the center of the room for games or dancing.
Purchase wall decals or wallpaper borders that work with the colors and theme. Place any decorative wall decals in areas of the room that aren't covered by large furniture, or run a wallpaper border along the top of the walls, all the way around the room. Hang framed pictures, posters or cork boards in any space left on the walls.
