The difference between acrylics and watercolor?

So a friend of mine is paying me to paint a picture of her brother and his fiance for their wedding. I'm 14 and so is she so don't freak out about it having to be perfect and everything because she thinks even my worst paintings are amazing. Okay so anyway I know your not supposed to but I have painted with watercolors on canvas and they turned out pretty good. I'm not going to do that for this painting though because I know it will turn out better if I use acrylics instead. I normally paint with watercolor but she wants it on canvas so yeah. I've used acrylics a couple times before but I don't know like all the techniques like I do with watercolor. I stared painting the portrait with watercolor but my cat knocked the water over onto it and ruined it so I have to restart and this time I'm using acrylics. I know there are some similar techniques with acrylics but I'm not really sure how to use them. Can you just give me some tips on like how to paint with acrylics vs watercolor. And the picture I'm using they are hugging each other before he leaves for afganaatan so he is in his uniform so how do I paint the camoflauge on it?

Acrylics are polymer and water based paints - watercolors are pigments used with water - water colors are more transparent and acrylics are more opaque - the subject matter is entirely up to you - you paint what you observe - look up different art styles on line and see which ones appeal to you - practice makes perfect -have fun with art!

Not sure if you know this but watercolors are done on paper, not canvas. Acrylic is not a transparent medium like watercolor and is completely different. You just paint. It takes many hours to get to know a medium and be a good painter. It's hard to copy a photo without it looking stiff and fake. good luck
