Capture the spirit of the Old West by painting with rustic earth-tone colors like reds, greens and browns along with featuring Western symbols on the walls. You can also paint with colors that reflect the blanket of purple, pink and gold hues seen brushed across the sky in the Southwest as the sun goes down. Decide what type of Western look you want to feature and make sure the mural design and colors blend well with existing furniture in the room.
Western Town Panoramic Mural
Feature a Western town mural that spans across all of the walls in the room to create a panoramic effect. Do the work yourself, or hire an artist to bring your dream to life. Use a pencil with stencils to trace cowboys, cactus and other small features in your mural, and draw the saloon and other buildings using a ruler while looking at a picture of the general shape of an Old West building. Feature a jail house, saloon and other buildings seen in a Western town and include people, cowboys and horses along with other old-fashioned relics that you might see during those days. Look at pictures to get an idea of what type of Western town you want to create.
Desert Sunset Cowboy Mural
Create a Western mural featuring a desert sunset with a cowboy riding his horse. Create a sunset by blending different shades of yellow, pink and purple together. Make pastel lines on the wall and blend with other colors to mold the shades together. Once the sunset is dry, you can then paint a cowboy riding his horse along with cactus and other features you want to include in the painting. You can also explain your vision to an artist and ask him to create this look.
Western Sheriff Star and Cowboy Border
Paint the walls beige and leave the ceiling white. Once the paint is dry, use a pencil to draw small cowboys and sheriff stars across the border of the room. Use a small paint brush to fill in the colors of the cowboy and gold sheriff stars. You can create a pattern by painting two stars next to each other and then one cowboy until the entire pattern covers the border. Decide if you want to feature the cowboy on a horse or standing alone.
Cowboy Hat and Cactus Border
Create a simple Western look with a cowboy hat and cactus border. Paint the walls beige or light brown first and leave the ceiling white. Once the paint is dry, use a pencil to draw cowboy hats and cactus all across the border of the room. You can draw with stencils or without, depending on your level of skill. Use a smaller paint brush to paint the colors of the cowboy hat and cactus.
