China powder paint can be used to decorate plates, mugs, porcelain dolls and other craft items. The powder is actually made up of ground minerals, and can be either soluble or insoluble. This means the paints can be mixed either with a water-based medium or an oil-based medium, depending on which type of paint you choose. Once the paint is applied to the object being decorated, the object is fired in a kiln. China powder paint comes in many different colors, and is available at most craft stores.

Drop a small pile of china powder paint onto a palette or an old glass plate.

Add a few drops of powder paint medium to the paint.

Use the palette knife to mix the paint with the medium until the powder is dissolved and the mixture has the consistency of toothpaste.

Add more medium or more paint until you have the desired consistency.

Paint the desired decoration onto your prefired craft object. Use fine, thin-bristled paintbrushes for delicate details and flat brushes for larger details.

Use the wiping cloth to remove any mistakes.

Fire the object in a kiln. This will have to be done with each layer of paint for the best effect. Firing the object sets the paint; if you're working with very tiny details, it is best to fire the object numerous times to build up the paint layers.
