I think he was moved by the natural beauty and presence of this woman and was wracking his brain as to how best capture it.
He wanted to communicate the mystery of her and he probably kept making rude jokes when she posed for him cos you can see it in that wry smile of hers.
he wanted to see what it would be like to be a woman... symbolism reflects mystery of womanhood.
