Claude Monet (November 14, 1840 - December 5, 1926) was a French painter and a founder of Impressionism. He was a practitioner of its philosophy of expressing one's perceptions before nature. The term Impressionism is derived from the title of his painting Impression, Sunrise. Monet was fond of painting controlled nature: his own garden in Giverny, with its water lilies, pond and bridge, and up and down the banks of the Seine.
Claude Monet and his wife Alice returned to Giverny. After completing the water lily series, Monet turned his attentions to the studies he brought home from Venice, including his 1908 work, Gondola in Venice. As a Venice artist, Gondola in Venice is a piece of magnum opus of Monet. The color and lines seems simple in the painting, while shows the peaceful life of Venice. The reflection in the water is so vividly depicting the gondola.
