A painted metal locker provides a blank space to decorate and express your personality. As well as making the locker look distinctive, decorations can be functional and help to organize the locker's contents. A metal locker provides the opportunity for you to make your own magnets to use to display pictures and notes, as well as a means of attaching storage items. As the locker is already painted, you can focus on adding decorative accessories.
1 Collect photos, pictures and memorabilia to put on your magnets. You could use photos or yourself or your friends, pictures cut from magazines or movie and concert tickets. Cut them into interesting shapes.
2 Cut shapes out of a foam sheet with scissors to complement your photos or pictures. For example, you might want to cut star shapes for your friends' photos. Cut each shape out larger than the photo. Vary the sizes of the shapes for interest and contrast.
3 Glue the photo to the shape. Experiment with putting the photo in the middle of the shape or off to one side.
4 Cut a piece of adhesive magnetic tape to fit the center of the foam shape. Remove the paper packing on the tape and press the sticky side of the magnetic strip firmly into the back of the foam piece.
Notice Board
5 Cut out a piece of heavy cardboard that will fit inside your locker door. You can use a square or a rectangle or even a heart shape. Cut out a piece of fabric that is 2 inches larger in all directions than your cardboard shape.
6 Place the fabric right side down on a flat surface and center the cardboard on top of it. Cut a diagonal slit in the corners of the fabric from the edge to the cardboard. Pull the extra fabric evenly around the side of the cardboard on top of it, and use the hot glue gun to glue it down, one side at a time.
7 Cut four magnetic strips 1 inch long and remove the adhesive backing. Press the strips firmly in the corners on the back of the notice board.
8 Cut 6 strips of ribbon 3 inches wider then your notice board. Place 3 strips horizontally across the front of the board, turning the excess ribbon behind the board on each side. Glue the ends of the ribbon to the back of the notice board. Place the remaining three strips vertically, and also glue the ends behind the board. This forms a lattice to tuck notes and letters into.
Holder
9 Cut the pocket of a pair of old jeans by cutting through the jeans just outside the edge of the pocket. This gives you a complete pocket.
10 Decorate the pocket using the fabric paint. If you have a theme, then select an element from that, or label the pocket with what it will contain or just doodle. Let the fabric paint dry.
11 Cut out four pieces of adhesive magnetic tape, each 1/2 inch square. Remove the backing paper and place a magnet on the back side of the pocket at each corner. Press firmly to ensure that the magnets are fully adhered.
