Many people have old paint cans laying around their garages and sheds without any other use for them. Miniature paint cans provide your outdoor environment with folksy accents if they're decorated, and decorating mini paint cans allows you the creativity to turn an old garage item into a decorative work of art. From blocks of vibrant color to dainty floral designs, decorated paint cans also enhance the look of your flowerbeds and landscape.
Spread an old newspaper or disposable table cloth over your work surface to keep it protected from paint and other damage.
Place the mini paint cans in front of you. Make sure each can is clean of debris. If the cans still have paint in them, make sure the lids are firmly in place.
Paint each can a single, bold color. Use a wide-bristled paint brush and paint one can red, one can blue and another one yellow, or you can paint them any color of your choosing. Allow about two hours for the painted cans to dry.
Place a stencil of your choice over the center front of one of the painted cans. Pretty stencil choices include insects, fish, flowers or heart designs.
Fill in the stencil with your choice of acrylic paint, making sure to use a color that contrasts with the solid color of the mini paint can.
Use another stencil on a second mini paint can, making sure it is dry before you fill in the stencil with paint. Stencil the third mini paint can, or leave the can a solid color.
