Well to me, I think the piece creates an overall feeling of tranquility before disaster. The piece looks kind of chilling to me, yet it's not chaotic. It's just the big black swirls on the left of the piece kind of seem like the 'storm' while the little town is the 'calm'. You know, the calm before the storm. I guess it's all about one's own perspective, but that's how the piece always seemed to me. Like a mixture of good and evil.
