Painting on silk of chinese origin,maybe,?

how do i find the providence /history of 2 silk paintings i bought in a flea market in Hong Kong. i am not at all bothered about there value as i consider them unique, i have given them to my children as gifts . is there any way of identifying the artist. do some artists use a figure or symbol to mark there respective works. i would appreciate any help .

If they are signed then they will either have a definite piece of writing on them, which you could take a photograph of and send to the curator of Oriental art somewhere like the British Museum, or else they will have a 'chop' (the square seal stamp) and you could do the same. Oriental artists are not shy of marking their work. However, there is an awful lot of tourist stuff.
