One of the best ways to paint a room is by using a sponge tool with a print design. Many sponges with attractive and decorative designs are available at hardware stores. These sponges can make your wall-decoration job much quicker and easier. Whether you're trying to create a wallpaper look, or create an original and innovative design, a sponge can help you to achieve your goals. This technique is particularly useful for decorating the walls in children's rooms.
1
Purchase your paint. It's best to get custom colors to make sure that all your colors work well together. For the base color, get enough paint to cover the entire wall surface you're intending to decorate. The decoration colors can be any colors you like. However, it's a good idea to have the hardware store mix your base color with white for at least one of your decoration colors. Any other colors should be complementary colors. For example, if your base is orange, your complementary color should be a shade of blue. This doesn't have to be bright or garish. For example, you can combine a muted base color with an off-white decoration.
2
Paint the entire room in a solid color. Allow the paint to dry for a couple of days before beginning the decoration.
3
Pour some of the paint you intend to use for your design into a paint bucket, a tray or a disposable plate. Add a little bit of water to the paint to achieve a better consistency.
4
Place the sponge in the paint until the design in saturated. Use the side of your bucket or a piece of scrap cardboard to remove any excess paint from the sponge. Begin to sponge the design onto your wall, turning the sponge each time you press it onto the wall. Ensure that the designs are evenly spaced and create an appealing overall design.
5
Clean your sponge thoroughly in warm water. Carefully squeeze out all excess water and allow the sponge to air dry.
6
Go over any areas where the paint looks sparse or “spongy” with a small paint brush and your decoration paint. Carefully fill in the sparsest areas. This will make your finished design look more professional. This technique is better than trying to go back over the area with the sponge, which will most likely create a ghost pattern.
