Decorating paint cans has become a popular craft that combines scrapbooking and 3-D art. They will be a beautiful decoration at a bridal shower. You can use them for prizes or thank-you gifts for the attendees.
The smaller cans can be decorated quickly and can be filled with treats and small gifts. The large cans are stunning storage containers with ribbon or lace-wrapped handles. You can decorate a one-of-a-kind bridal shower paint can. The clear paint cans can be used for holding small floral bouquets, packaged treats and gifts.
1
Measure the circumference and height of the paint can. Write down the measurements. Add 1/2 inch to the width.
2
Cut strips of scrapbooking or heavy gift wrap paper that will cover the can measurements.
3
Hold a strip of paper next to the can and measure where the handle sets into the can. Mark this area.
4
Cut out the area where the handle is. Make a straight slit so you can ease the paper around the handle without tearing it.
5
Adhere double-sided tape to both edges of the width of the paper. Carefully remove the protective covering from one end and adhere the paper to the can.
6
Pull the paper around the can, making sure to keep it aligned. Pull off the protective covering and press the tape to the paper under the 1/2-inch overlap.
7
Cut out a circle of matching paper to cover the top of the can. Adhere the circle with the tape.
8
Tape or glue a band of ribbon, beading or lace around the circumference of the top, bottom or middle of the paint can. You can choose to adhere a string of pearl trim or rhinestones on top of the ribbon.
9
Use letter stickers to adhere the bride's initials to the top of the can if desired. You could opt to use stickers to place the wedding date on the can lid. Decorate the can body with more stickers, rhinestones, flat silk flower blossoms, charms and wedding ring embellishments.
