There's a lot of crossover with other movements like Dada and Expressionism and a lot of different formats that you've got to consider. Surrealism had a lot of writers, filmmakers and musicians in addition to the painters. A lot of artists that aren't generally considered to be Surrealists had brief Surrealist periods as well.

Yup, Salvador Dalí is probably the most famous.
Other Surrealists were dedicated to revolution and kind of outcasted Dalí because he was apolitical.
Rene Magritte is perhaps the second most famous, and my personal favorite Surrealist.
The 'head' of Surrealism was Andre Breton.
Other famous Surrealists include Max Ernst, Yves Tanguy and Giorgio de Chirico.
