Most of Henry Moore's major work was done between the 1930s and 1980s. His sculptures were inspired both by European Old Masters and by native sculpture from places like Mexico. Among his contemporaries were his close friend Barbara Hepworth and her partner Ben Nicholson, and Roland Penrose. He took several trips to Fr4ance, where he met and became friends with Pablo Picasso, George Braque, Jean Arp, and Alberto Giacometti, and his contemporary influences included Constantin Brâncuşi and Jacob Epstein. Moore himself influences other of his contemporaries, including Anthony Caro, Lynn Chadwick, and Isaac Witkin, and - to a lesser extent - Alexander Archipenko.
