Painting and Decorating Western Style

0 votes
Decorating your home in western decor can add some character to a room. You may think of cowboys and rodeos when someone mentions western decor, but those are not the only elements. Earth tones, distressed and worn edges and items from the wide-open range can create a western feel in a room. Adding area rugs, lamps and perhaps a wall mural can also add to the western decor.

Prime the walls and trim in your home. Allow primer to dry.

    2
Paint the wall a neutral color reminiscent of sand or light dirt; this will bring earth tones into the room.

    3
Paint the trim a sky blue, forest green or other complementary color.

    4
Buy or salvage old worn boards. Lightly sand the wood to remove any jagged pieces.

    5
Paint the board in a complementing color to your walls.

    6
Paint a scene or stencil a picture onto the board; some popular choices are horseshoes, ropes, cowboy or horse silhouettes.

    7
Sand the edges and front of the board to give it a distressed and worn look.

    8
Seal the board with one or two coats of matte finish polyurethane.

    9
Use your current side and coffee tables or buy some at garage sales. Sand the entire piece, prime the piece, then paint in a complementary color to the walls.

    10
Sand the edges, then beat with a hammer or chains to distress the wood.

    11
Seal the piece with polyurethane to keep the finish protected.

Buy rugs, lamps, and wall art that complements the decor choices you have made.

    13
Place rugs on the floor and the lamps on your distressed tables.

    14
Hang any wall decor; some ideas are horseshoes, rodeo scenes and tin art that reflects the western decor.
