How to Decorate & Paint a Kids Jungle Room

0 votes
Preparing a themed bedroom can be great fun for adults and children. Before starting on your creative journey, research your project fully and make a list of different ideas that will work for the space that you are decorating. Also, talk to your child and solicit ideas from your child -- as long as you're not too worried the ideas will form into unreasonable expectations. By including your child in the creative process, the planning and decorating process will become a bonding experience for you both.

Paint the walls of your child's bedroom to match the colors of the jungle. Medium, dark and light greens, combined with medium and light browns, all are jungle colors. You may want to choose only one or two colors, or you can paint each wall of the room a different color. For an enhanced jungle look, purchase or make jungle leaf stencils to match your theme, or paint a tree in one corner of the room.

Purchase a jungle-themed comforter set, or commission a seamstress to make jungle-themed quilt. You can find a professional seamstress locally or online. Consider asking the seamstress to make a quilt with a green, but not specifically jungle, color scheme, so the quilt can be enjoyed for years to come -- even after your child no longer wants to have a jungle room.

Hang a mosquito net over the bed. Attach tie-backs to the wall behind the bed to keep the mosquito net out of the way.

If your child is old enough, purchase plants for the bedroom and put your child in charge of watering them. Philodendrons are a particularly good choice because these plants are hardy and leafy, inexpensive and widely available at stores that sell plants. They will be difficult for your child to kill, even if your child forgets to water sometimes. As they grow, they often overhang the edge of the pot, giving them a jungle plant feel.

Place jungle-themed stuffed animals -- tigers, baboons, monkeys, bears, cheetahs and hippos -- around the room. Hang an additional mosquito net from the ceiling, and use it as a "pet net" to hold the animals.
