Use PVA glue if you want to retain the natural beige or light brownish-gold color of the starfish, because it will dry clear. Use paint if you want the starfish to be a specific color all over. Add glitter if you want it to sparkle. Translucent glitter will let the color of the starfish or paint show through.
2
Place the starfish on a piece of clean, dry paper. Dip the paintbrush into the PVA glue or acrylic paint and brush a thin layer of the glue or paint on the top surface of the starfish, making sure to cover all exposed areas. To make it sparkly, sprinkle glitter evenly over the starfish for a light dusting, or dump it on to cover it completely. Set the starfish out to dry for 24 hours, then turn the starfish over and repeat the process on the other side.

Once the glue or paint is completely dry, use the stiff, dry paintbrush to gently brush the excess glitter off of the starfish. Dip the soft brush into the clear acrylic sealant and brush it over the front and sides of the starfish. Let the sealant dry for 24 hours, then turn the starfish over and apply it to the other side. Let dry. You now have a colorful, shimmery starfish to use as a decoration.
