How have events and issues influenced the practice of artists?

Question

just got a study quiz tomorrow, and need some help. ive brainstormed a bit, but this question is proving a bit hard to do, so any help would be much appreciated!
just some artists issues that influenced them and some of their works would be great!

(ive already mentioned Edward hopper, and pearl harbor etc :) )
