I need advice on mixing paints?

Okay, I want to try mixing watercolor and acrylic paint. I don't mean literally mixing the paint together, but using both watercolor AND acrylic on the same canvas. Do you think it would work? Let's say I have watercolor as the background and acrylic as the foreground, could I paint one over the other without it looking bad?

Experimentation is what making art is all about. Just try it. I'll tell you , though, don't mix oil paint with acrylics; that doesn't work.
