What kind of paint do i need?

I want to spraypaint my controller can someone tell me what type of paint i need and what to put ontop of it to make the paint stay and not chip and wear thanks!!

I was wondering if I should use water based primer or oil based primer on my chairs. Other than the obvious what is the difference between the two and what would each type be more useful for? Thank you for your reply and all of your useful advice!
