What does 8 horses means in chinese paintings?

We purchased a painting with 8 horses in it witha chinese characters/words at the upper left of the painting..some says it brings goodluck in business. But I wanted to know what it reeally means and the history behind it.

I think its the famous 8 horses of the King Mu of Zhou. It is a common subject of Chinese artworks.
