How would I find out the artists name of a painting that has no signature, but was painted on the upson board?

How would a person go about finding the name of the artist of an oil painting painted on the upson? The picture is of a man with a cap of some sort on and has a black shadowy looking background?

Well, there are so many painters and pieces of art floating about that it's nearly impossible to find the name of the artist unless he has signed it. My kid managed to sell two prints without ever signing it. And she even forgot to put in the date. So people are going to go by the fact that she used Johannot paper, seen by the watermark to find out the approximate date. 

So, that's how difficult it's going to be to identify the unknown artist.
