Using Claude Monet's style, how can I create a piece of art work using impressionism?

I need to create a work of art with oil pastels using Monet's impressionism style, but I don't know how. How do you create art like an impressionist? What am I suppose to draw? Does what you draw matter? How do I draw it?

These paintings usually consisted of visible brush strokes using bright use of light and varied colors. Black was rarely used. Works many times emphasized lighting and its qualities, every day subject matter that was viewed from unusual angles. Instead of mixing colors as was typical of the masters, colors would have been placed side by side thus blue and yellow would give the "impression" of green. Perhaps look at some modern day impressionist and you will be helped to find your inspiration. Do not limit yourself or you will be trying to copy rather than create.

Impressionism gives you an impression of the subject...not a photo like representation. Monet used color sunny warm happy colors. Subject matter was generally happy ...people at gatherings,,loved ones and landscapes. Look at examples of his work...you will be able to see.

Also color was applied in somewhat blotchy ways and not necessarily blended in ( you eye does that). You need to study some of his art and pay attention. I do not know what the criteria of you assignment was but you could draw a still life....some flowers, fruit bowl, candle sticks and use that pastels and use a loose way of drawing, apply colors as true as you can. Do your best.

Do check out his art and that will help you figure out how to draw it.
