How to make origami items water proof? Is there any polish or spray to use on these items?

I make beautiful origami flowers for display and origami jewelry also. The life of simple paper is very short. They lose their shine within few weeks and sometimes the colours also fade out in patches. And always one should be careful of these items because the moisture in the air during rainy season/ body sweat would spoil them.
