How good are hand-painted oil reproductions of famous paintings?

I'm considering buying an oil reproduction of a famous painting as a gift for someone, but I'm a little unsure of how the quality is when it says "hand-painted". Are there obvious differences between the original and the hand-painted replicas? Are there any sites you have purchased a replica from that you recommend?

You can buy a lot of hand painted replicas on Artisoo.com, eg a Van Gogh or a Matisse or a Modigliani. I think oil reproductions are quite interesting myself although it’s doubtful they are anywhere near as good ~color quality wise on in general essence...
