Who is sardinopolis (by Eugene delacroix )? ?

Eugene delacroix painted a painting called "Death of Sardinopolis", but I can't find any reference to who that might be anywhere. Does anyone know the story?

The painting is of an Assyrian king, Sardanapalus (although there have been many different spellings since) and depicts him watching the slaughter of his household, I think the 'death' in the title refers to the death of his dynasty, not the man himself.

The French title of the painting is La Mort de Sardanapale and usually in English it's called the Death of Sardanapalus. 

The painting depicts the death of the Assyrian king Sardanapalus. The besieged king is watching impassively as guards carry out his orders to kill his servants, concubines and animals. The literary source is a play by Byron, although the play does not specifically mention any massacre of concubines.

I think one of the original fishermen. Maybe Scots because the word polis is used for police and sardino is an Italian restaurant serving sardines.
Yes one of the greatest of fishermen in Scotland who smuggled sardines caught by the police and then died. A terrible loss to the Scots.
