Klimt created this painting as requested by Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer, who was a wealthy sugar industry tycoon. Adele Bloch-Bauer was Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer's wife and the only woman who Klimt painted twice.

The background mixes in with what she is wearing, which makes her look like she's painted right into it. The background has small flowers as well as scenes of war. Purple, violet and blue are the most common colors. The expression on Adele's face is straight forward and does not show much emotion.
