When comes to the Chinese Valentine’s Day, the famous love story about Niu Lang and Zhi Nv who is the seventh daughter of the heaven's King should be mentioned. They were separated by the galaxy and they can meet each other only once every year.

For this romantic story, famous ancient poet Qin Guan wrote a very beautiful poem like this:

Immortal at the Magpie Bridge
Qin Guan

Translated by

Xu. Yuanchong

A Clouds float like works of art;
Stars shoot with grief at heart.
Across the Milky Way the Cowherd meets the Maid.

When autumn's Golden Wind embraces Dew of Jade,
All the love scenes on earth, however many, fade.

Their tender love flows like a stream;
This happy date seems but a dream.
Can they bear a separate homeward way?

If love between both sides can last for aye,
Why need they stay together night and day?

The last two lines show the true meaning of love and it means that the two needn't be physically together as long as they love each other deeply. Chinese people usually use it to describe a deep affection between separated lovers. In the poem, where Niu Lang andZhiNvis called Magpie Bridge, which is built by numerous magpies.

Magpie symbolic meanings take on a brighter note in the East, where the Chinese regard the magpie as a good luck symbol, joy, marital bliss, sexual happiness, and long lasting fortune. Magpie is regarded as the bird of joy. It symbolizes happiness and luck. In Chinese the bird is called ‘xi que’ and the character ‘xi’ also means happiness in Chinese. It is said that when this bird nests in your house, it will bring much cause for celebration and many happy occasions. The bird also symbolizes the tendency for nesting. Therefore anyone who needs to settle down can try using the magpie symbol so that the couple would be able to “nest”. Additionally the magpie is a strong and useful symbol to attract the joy associated with children and marriage. When the Chinese hear the cry of a magpie it is said to be an announcement of the arrival of friends and family.
