A time of wonder and belief that anyone could be anything they chose, occured once Americans started to settle down and claim responsibility for being Americans. They were they first "naturalists" of American. They believed in the expansiveness of the country. Artists caputred this belief on canvas and authors captured it with pen and paper. This time period became known as Romanticism.
