What was happening in the world that may have influenced Gustav Klimts work?

I've been searching for quite a while and couldn't find anything that was happening in the world that may have influenced Klimts art work. If you know anything please let me know, id really appreciate it! Thanks!

Gustav Klimt was been influence by Symbolism (both in visual art and in literature) and Art Nouveau. 

 

Outside the art world, Freud was publishing book on dreams and the unconscious in the same city where Klimt was living and working.
