In the summer and all year-round, simple terra cotta pots are the perfect way to keep your flowers thriving. When you're ready to brighten your patio or yard, make a batch of puffy paint to add your creativity and individual style to your flower pots.

Wash your pots if they need it or remove any tags on old pots. Give them a moment to dry completely.

Create your puffy paint. In your mixing bowl combine equal parts flour, salt and water -- about 1 cup of each. Combine the ingredients and then add color. Make your batch all one color or use smaller bowls to make four or five different colors.

Pour the puffy paint into a squeeze bottle with a fine tip or into a pastry bag with a tip. Cut the smallest amount of the tip of one corner. If it's not big enough, you can always make another cut.

Draw on your pot in pencil first. This allows for you to make some mistakes and to refine your design.

Trace over it in puffy paint. Keep your hand from dragging in the paint. It takes several hours to dry.

Leave your pots to dry overnight.
