Leonardo da vinci used sgraffito (graffiato in italian) in some of his work and Eric Carle, children's author and illustrator, is famous for his sgraffito illustrations (the very hungry caterpillar).
Jean-Michel Basquiat was a graffiti artist; I'm not sure that he actually used a sgraffito technique.
