Decorating paint on the side of your car can be devastating. However, before you rush out and get a new paint job because someone was sloppy with his decorating paint, you can try a few techniques first. Some of the methods take more time than others, but none requires you to pay for a new paint job.
1
Dampen a cotton ball with some rubbing alcohol and gently scrub the decorating paint from the car. Make sure that you wash the area thoroughly when you are done so you remove the residue from the alcohol and the paint.
2
Soak a clay bar in soapy water and scrub the paint off of your car. The clay will take off any other material that is on the car, including dirt. Wash your car and dry the affected area.
3
Rub the area with a small amount of nail polish remover, using a cotton ball. The decorative paint should come off with minimal scrubbing.
4
Apply a xylene-based cleaning product on a cotton towel and clean the paint off of the car. Xylene is a strong chemical, so you might want to try it on the inside of your door frame before you put it on the outside of your car. If it removes the car paint, as well, you will know from the test site.
5
Wash the car with warm water mixed with a surfactant based cleaning product. Instead of using the recommended mixture, use about 1 cup of the surfactant based cleaning product with 1 gallon of water. Make sure you wash your car again after the paint is gone, so the chemicals from the cleaning product does not sit on your car indefinitely.
