I need to know, is there really a meaning in this piece, or is it just a scene?

Degas was part of the French Impressionist movement who used broken colors instead of solid colors and tried to show sunlight using the placement of splotches of colors next to each other allowing your eyes to mix the colors. Through the Impressionists a whole new palette was developed for the artist as well as a new way of seeing things that opened the way to Modern Art after such revolutionaries as Paul Cezanne, Paul Gauguin and Vincent Van Gogh went beyond Impressionism with new visions of seeing Cezanne paved the way for Cubism and Abstract art, Gauguin influenced Fauvism and Van Gogh anticipated Expressionism.
