I've seen Frida Kahlo self-portraits before, and she always looked depressed and kind of like a man.
the reason for the thick eyebrows and the painting herself as a man is its a sign of personal strength in some cultures and she looked depressed because there was a lot of suffering in her life she was in a bus accident when she was young and was plagued with health problems for the rest of her life she could not have children and in later years could not walk her husband cheated on her many times and even slept with her sister however she always was passionate about her work and her culture and she did not want to just look depressed in her portraits but fierce
She lived a life filled with pain, physical and emotionaly. I love her work, and admire her her strength. If you were to look at all her work all at once, you would understand the pain and sadness she lived.
