Craft stores offer many cermaic items. Hobby Lobby for instance offers them in 3 different sizes with prices ranging from $3-$8. Choose a piggy bank without any chips or flaws. You can find acrylic paint just about anywhere, from hardware stores, to Walmart, to a craft store. Choose any amount of colors that coordinate well. Preferrably anywhere from 3-6 different colors.

While at the craft store, pick up Clear Acrylic Gloss Coating. You can usually find it near the spray paints. It will be in an aerosol can. I personally use the "Tree House Studio" brand.

Finally, cover your work area with a sheet of newspaper or something similar. Go to work on your piggy bank. You can find many neat ideas on www.etsy.com. You can also add jewels and other accessories to your piggy bank after you are done painting. Don't forget to add a name if you choose.

When finished painting, apply the gloss coating. Be sure to read the directions on how to apply, safety precautions, and how to clear the nozzle when you are finished.
