Renaissance reflects the antique ideas. One of these is Greek/roman mythology, which inspired the title and the theme of this painting. Venus was born from the sea foam, and the wind (here Zephyr - that is personification of the wind) brought her to the coast on the shell, which is a symbol of fertility. Here a woman with the flowered plaid awaits her - this is the personification called Flora. The air around Venus is filled with white roses, the symbols of beauty (you know she was the goddess of beauty and fertility). One oh the renaissance characteristic is also a nude as a motif. In antiquity the nude shows the beauty of the human body which has the same importance as the human soul; in renaissance this idea was realized again.
