Scroll crafts are a good idea for kids' creative craft projects or for decorative features at home. The look of ancient scrolls is distinctive and reflects uniqueness as a craft project or adds a historic appeal as a decorative piece hanging on the wall. Making a scroll craft is not difficult and does not require any expensive materials. You can add a lot of variations to make your scroll craft more creative. Here is a guide to preparing scroll crafts. Include kids in the scroll craft-making activity.

Purchase two wooden craft dowels and corresponding dowel caps. Choose dowel length and thickness according to your paper size.

Select content for your scroll. This can be a picture or text. Take a printout of the picture or text leaving space enough to allow one dowel roll on the top and bottom of the paper.

Crumple the paper to give it an ancient look. Straighten the crumpled paper by gently running your hand over it.

Take a teaspoon of coffee powder in a plastic cup. Slowly add water to the powder just to make it dissolve. Stir the mixture well. Check the mixture color on any white paper. If the color seems too dark, add a little water to reduce the intensity.

Dip a paintbrush into the mixture and brush the color on the whole paper. Let the paper dry.

Glue dowel caps to the dowel ends; let them dry. Glue ribbons to the dowel caps.

Glue the top side of the paper along the dowel. Once dry, roll the paper with the dowel once so that the paper wraps itself around the dowel. Glue the paper to the dowel to keep the roll intact. Attach the dowel to the lower end of the paper in the same way. The free space on the paper ensures that the dowel placement doesn't interfere with the scroll picture. Let the glue dry.

Roll the scroll close. Wrap the ribbon on either ends around the scroll and tie them into a bow at the center. Unwrap it to view the content inside. You scroll is now ready.
