Why couldn't william turner take elizabeth with him in his ship-in pirates of the caribbean movie?

Because he and the entire crew on the Flying Dutchman were living dead...sort of like zombies. The Dutchman spent much of its time at the bottom of the sea - and Elizabeth couldn't have survived, naturally - cuz she was still alive.

Because the Flying Dutchman is supposed to carry the dead to the other side. Living people are not supposed to be on it.
