what drug did vincent van gogh use and what effect did it have?

im doing a assignment on vincent van gogh and i cant find the drug he used and the effect of it.Can someone please help me.

Hey, I believe you're talking about something called "digitalis" and it was prescribed for him by a doctor but he just administered large doses of it and he wasn't supposed to do that. 
 
It made Van Gogh see things as if he were looking through a yellow filter (called "xanthopsia"). They say that's why you can see a dominant yellow in a lot of his works.
