Rice paper is a traditional surface for ink brush painting and wood block prints. Its thin texture makes rice paper suitable for picking up printed details and absorbing painted brush strokes. However, rice paper is also quite fragile. Mounting your rice paper on a sturdy board will keep your work of art from wrinkling or tearing. Make sure that your materials are acid-free for an archival mounting solution that will not yellow or release acid over time.

Wipe off a flat work surface with a clean rag. Put your rice paper down, with the back of the work of art facing toward you.

Peel off one side of the paper backing from the mounting film. Place the exposed side of the sticky film on the back of the rice paper. Start in one corner and slowly adhere the film to the rice paper with your hand. Be careful not to allow any air bubbles to get trapped.

Cut off any excess film with a pair of scissors. Carefully peel off the other piece of paper backing.

Position your rice paper over the museum board to get the proper alignment. Gently tack the left side of the rice paper to the museum board. Place a sheet of tissue paper over the rice paper to keep oils on your hands from smudging or damaging the rice paper. Work from left to right, carefully adhering the rice paper to the board and smoothing it out as you go.

Take off the tissue paper. Carefully remove any excess adhesive film on the museum board with a clean eraser.
