Ink markings may be applied to a wall on purpose as a decorative design or by accident from a child. Ink is often permanent and tough to paint over because it shows through top layers of paint. A paint primer is designed to bond a new layer of paint to an old surface and can be used to cover up ink markings. Paint primers are available at most hardware stores and differ depending on the wall's surface material. Use a paint primer to paint over ink on walls.
Remove any dirt or moisture from the wall, using a clean cloth.
Apply a paint primer to the ink spots. You do not need to paint the entire wall or area. Spot-treat the ink by painting over it, using a paintbrush with the appropriate size bristles. For smaller markings, use a 1-inch or 2-inch brush; for larger areas, use a 3- or 4-inch brush or roller.
Apply a second coat of primer once the first layer has dried. Allow the second layer to completely dry. This may take up to 12 hours, depending on the type of surface.
Paint over the ink, using your desired paint.
Apply a second coat once the first coat is completely dry if the paint color is light and the ink continues to show through.
