In 1477, Verrochio made a painting titled "The Baptism of Christ," a project which Leonardo assisted by painting an angel on the far left of the picture. Why was the painting so lousy except for the part da Vinci painted?
Whoever told you that it was a lousy painting. This is not the case. Verrochio was a highly respected painter and da Vinci trained in his workshop. It is fascinating, of course, to know that way back in the 15th century it is recorded that da Vinci his pupil painted the left angel. But - I quote: " this fact has excited so much special comment that the importance and value of the picture as a whole and within the oevre of Verrocchio is often overlooked.
