High renaissance focused on humanism, I think. The celebration of God through man. Emphasis on through man. Leonardo experimented with more realistic ways of drawing and Michelangelo used exquisite detail. Mannerists broke away form realism and focused on color and space, lights and darks. They also used religious expression but proportions were thrown out of whack and there was more importance in expressions and mood. Baroque again returns to realism with an even greater emphasis on dramatic lighting.
